To mark the COP 28 Conference Stirling Methodist Church commissioned two banners to hang outside the church in Queen Street, Stirling.
The first banner depicts a scene of the world as we would like it. The second as it might appear if we continue to belch carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. This gas increases global warming which reinforces unwanted climate change.
After a year of extreme weather events, in which many climate records were not just broken but smashed, the COP 28 Conference must make substantial progress in setting targets curbing carbon emissions. Progress must also be made to make sure that the most vulnerable communities around the world have the resources with which to protect themselves from the worst effects of global warming and climate change. These are not some distant events they are happening now. Unless substantial progress is made in the next few years, by 2030, we will be committing our children and grandchildren to live out their last year's facing an overwhelming and unprecedented global catastrophe.
Adam Stevenson, minister at Stirling Methodist Church commented, 'no longer can we talk of climate change, as though that is something that can be managed, but a climate emergency, which must call each of us into action, taking seriously our part in the care of God's creation'.
Stirling Methodist Church would like to thank David Crossley, a very talented local artist, who has freely donated his time to produce the art work for the banners.
The COP 28 Conference is to be held between the 30th. November and 12th. December in Dubai. For further information contact any of the following:-Walter Attwood - This email address is being protected from spambots.
